STATE DEPARTMENT TRAVEL INFORMATION - Ecuador & Peru
============================================================
Ecuador and Peru - Public Announcement
February 15, 1995
U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE
Office of the Spokesman
For Immediate Release
The following is an update of the Department's previous Public
Announcement of January 31, 1995.
The potential continues for border hostilities between Peru and
Ecuador. The U.S. Embassies in Lima and Quito report that the main
tourist areas of Cuzco, Macchu Pichu, Trujillo, southern Cajamarca,
Nazca, Ica, Paracas, Manu and Iquitos in Peru and the Galapagos
Islands, Quito and the highlands, and northern Oriente in Ecuador
have been unaffected. However, there may be continuing military
movements along the Ecuador-Peru border. Until hostilities cease,
U.S. citizens should not travel to areas near the Peru-Ecuador
border and should avoid the Amazonas Department of Peru. U.S.
citizens in either country, should register with the U.S. Embassy in
that country, keep abreast of developments by following local media
coverage, avoid military or public concentrations, carry their
passports with them at all times, and obey instructions of local
authorities.
